Oxford Biomedica Signs Licensing Deal with Australia’s VVMF

Grants VVMF a worldwide, nonexclusive license to OXB’s inAAVate manufacturing platform.

Oxford Biomedica (OXB), a contract manufacturer specializing in cell and gene therapies, has signed a licensing and option agreement with Viral Vector Manufacturing Facility (VVMF), an Australian CDMO that operates the country’s first commercial viral‑vector manufacturing site.

The agreement, which follows nonbinding terms reached in October 2025, grants VVMF a worldwide, nonexclusive license to OXB’s inAAVate manufacturing platform. VVMF also has an option to license OXB’s LentiVector technology. OXB will receive a low single‑digit–million upfront payment and may earn additional fees tied to the platforms’ use.

The five‑year deal is intended to support a broader collaboration between the companies, enabling VVMF to accelerate its manufacturing capabilities and target growing demand for viral vectors in the Asia‑Pacific region.

OXB said the arrangement expands the global reach of its technologies and underscores rising international interest in its manufacturing platforms.

“Partnering with VVMF not only gives us a strategic foothold in Australia but also creates a launchpad to serve clients across the APAC region, further strengthening the global foundation for reliable AAV and lentiviral vector production,” said Sébastien Ribault, OXB’s Chief Business Officer.

Stephen Thompson, VVMF’s CEO, said the access to OXB’s platforms “gives us a strong foundation as we continue to build our capabilities, leveraging OXB’s expertise and global brand recognition to establish a leadership position in the APAC region. The collaboration will help us accelerate operational readiness and ensure our processes are aligned with recognized industry standards. We look forward to working closely with the OXB team as we establish reliable and scalable manufacturing capabilities.”
